Hiring great sales people is never easy. ?In this article I will help you understand what it takes to hire great sales people. ?And, you will hire and fire fewer people. ?Why? An easy hire is a quick fire. ?The more energy you spend identifying what you need your sales people to do and who you need them to be, the less energy you will spend interviewing, hiring and firing.

Fourth rule-Bad management will kill talent and production. ?The most important elements of a good hire are talent, fit, management and training-in that order. And, bad managers can create a toxic workplace filled with favoritism, lack of recognition and negativity.
Fifth rule-Talent will out. ?The key is talent. ?Good people will find a way to work around bad process, tough territories and average management.
Most important rule-Different people can sell different things. ?Sales ain?t sales. Some people are great at selling something they can touch and feel. ?Others are great at selling service or consulting. Some people are great at selling when people stop by and others are great stopping by and selling. ?Some people are great at selling big stuff and some great at selling little stuff. ?Sales ain?t sales.
Action items:
1 . Stop being lazy by asking for a lot of experience selling your particular product or service and look for analogous experience.
2. Look for previous success that is both linear and non-linear. Example: A black belt and raising money for a charity.
3. Don?t rely on training to overcome a bad hire or bad fit.
4. Make sure your great people have decent management.
5. Pay for talent.

A new online tool from the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth (CAMY) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health determines the extent of exposure to radio alcohol advertisements among young people ages 12 to 20 in 75 different media markets. This free and user-friendly tool is the first service to provide parents, health departments and other key audiences with access to customizable information on youth exposure to radio alcohol advertising.
"Despite the proliferation of things like smart phones and tablets, radio continues to be a popular source of media among youth," said David Jernigan, PhD, CAMY director. "This tool gives users in dozens of cities across the U.S. the ability to determine the scope to which young people in their community are exposed to alcohol marketing."
In 2003, trade groups for beer and distilled spirits committed to placing alcohol ads in media venues only when underage youth comprise 30 percent of the audience or less. Since that time, a number of groups and officials, including the National Research Council, the Institute of Medicine and 24 state attorneys general, have called upon the alcohol industry to strengthen its standard and meet a "proportional" 15 percent placement standard, given that the group most at risk for underage drinking 12 to 20 year-olds is less than 15 percent of the U.S. population. At least 14 longitudinal research studies have found that the more young people are exposed to alcohol marketing, the more likely they are to start drinking or, if already drinking, to drink more.
The tool provides three important measures for each market: the percent of alcohol ads that are out of compliance with the 30 percent standard; the percent which exceed the 15 percent proportional standard; and "youth overexposure," that is, how many ads in each market were more likely to be heard by youth per capita than by adults. An earlier CAMY analysis of all 75 markets found close to one-third of advertising placements occurred when proportionately more youth were listening than adults age 21 and above. The analysis also found that 9 percent of the ads in 75 markets failed to meet the industry standards, which accounted for almost 50 percent of all radio listeners age 12 and older. Three brands alone Miller Lite, Bud Light and Coors Light placed more than half of these violating ads.
"Alcohol is the leading substance abuse problem among youth in the U.S., and we know alcohol advertising and marketing have a significant impact on youth decisions to drink," said Robert Brewer, Alcohol Program Leader in the Division of Population Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "CAMY's radio tool gives state and local health departments a brand new data source to help inform local efforts to reduce youth exposure to alcohol marketing."
Alcohol is responsible for 4,700 deaths per year among young people under the age of 21. Every day, close to 4,500 young people under the age of 16 take their first drink, and binge drinking (defined as consuming five or more drinks within 2 hours) accounts for more than 90 percent of the alcohol consumed by young people.

Many companies spam their clients and people, but companies that advertise through spamming methods are not following the internet marketing principals that would best market their products. One of the largest complaints that people have about the Internet is spam, and they ignore anything that looks even remotely spammy.
An important means of reaching people through the internet is often done through target marketing. This is the idea that instead of spamming one hundred people and hoping that two like your product, you focus on people and online groups who are already interested in similar goods or services.
It?s true that by doing this you will significantly decrease the amount of exposure you get, but this also means that you will reduce the amount of bad publicity you get as well. All of the people that you sent email 
advertisements to that weren?t interested in your merchandise are going to think that your company is merely one of those fly by night spamming operations.
Even if you?re not, it won?t change the way they think of your product and their perception of your business practices. However, if you can focus your marketing ideas on groups of people, who you know are interested in similar things, then you increase your likelihood of having good corresponding sales figures. Internet marketing principals are not that different from other means of promoting something.
One of the more important rules is to know what people will pay for your product. Too many times people don?t properly estimate the value of their product or service.
The first time many people see an advertisement or commercial, they form an opinion of what is being marketed. If they see something they think is priced too low, they might decide that it?s made with lower quality parts and decide they don?t want to buy it. If they think it?s priced too highly then they may think it out of their price range and discount it immediately.
This is why it?s never a bad idea to look around online at what your competitors may be charging for similar products. The idea behind this is to get your price slightly lower than what they are charging; so that people think they?re getting a good deal on something. Of course, make sure that it?s not so good of a deal that they start wondering about quality.
If you are still having problems pricing your items, then you could go to a message board and see if there are any discussions that might give you an idea of what people are willing to pay. Many times this is the kind of research that large public relations firms do for their clients.
Remember to keep everything you do as professional as possible and don?t be too pushy. You shouldn?t have a problem learning how to safely and easily promote your company, especially if you put these internet marketing principals into action.

Several mass deaths of dolphins have occurred over the past few years and while experts are worried about the die-off they say we are not witnessing a global population crash.
But what is behind the recent mass strandings and deaths is complicated and, inevitably, involves humans.
For example, the bottlenose dolphin die-off in Gulf of Mexico started in early 2010, even before BP's massive oil spill in April 2010. Disease was linked to some of the hundreds of Gulf dolphin deaths, but not all of them. The ultimate cause remains mysterious.
"There is no evidence at this time to indicate that such a worldwide, multi-species crash is occurring," Randall Wells, director of the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program said. ?The large-scale mortality events and mass strandings that have made the news in the past two years appear to be unrelated.?
Nonetheless, the past two years have been rough for several species of dolphins, but not all of the nearly 40 species of dolphins are in hot water.
NEWS: Thousands of Dolphins Dying in Gulf Waters
?There is not a large-scale die-off of dolphins across the globe or throughout ocean basins,? said Connie Barclay, spokesperson for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s National Marine Fisheries Service.
?What we do see are localized areas where strandings and deaths have increased,? Barcaly said. "Scientists have seen unusually high rates of illness and death in specific populations of bottlenose dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico, long-beaked common dolphins along the beaches of Peru and short-beaked common dolphins along the shores of Cape Cod."
And only certain populations of the effected species have been hit hard.
?While bottlenose dolphins in the northern Gulf of Mexico are dying at higher-than-average rates, elsewhere in the Gulf of Mexico bottlenose dolphin populations are doing fine,? Wells, a former chair of NOAA's Working Group on Marine Mammal Unusual Mortality Events , said.
One population that suffered a serious dolphin disaster swam in the Pacific off the coast of Peru. Discovery News recently reported on the thousands of dolphin corpses washing up on the tropical beaches.
?The Peru mass stranding is the largest ever reported in the (Western Hemisphere) and the biggest since the mass stranding in Europe during the '90s,? Carlos Yaipen-Llanos, president and science director forOrganization for Research and Conservation of Aquatic Animals (ORCA).
The causes of the dolphin strandings and deaths seem to be varied as well. Unlike the fungus decimating multiple North American bat species, no single reason has been found for the dolphins' dilemma.
?No common infectious disease has been identified in any of the current dolphin stranding events,? said Barclay. ?Scientists are still working to understand the local and global effects of changing environmental conditions on marine mammal populations.?
When these mass deaths occur, whole family groups can be wiped out, said Yaipen-Llanos. The effect on the future of the species when whole generations of dolphins are wiped out is a serious concern to dolphin research and conservationists.
Ocean-going dolphins are not the only ones suffering. The Chinese river dolphin, or baiji, was declared functionally extinct in 2006 after a study couldn't find a single individual.
The baiji was probably done in by a combination of problems caused by humans, including accidental deaths by getting trapped in fishing gear, vessel strikes, underwater explosions, excessive noise and depletion of prey species, according to Tim Ragen, executive director of the U.S. Marine Mammal Commission.
?Broadly similar threats face marine dolphins,? said Ragen.
Other possible accomplices in the dolphins' demise were abnormal weather, toxic algae blooms, parasites, pollution exposure, loss of prey leading to starvation, disorientation due to loud noises from ships and oil exploration and physical injury.
?In many cases, the cause of stranding is unknown and difficult to discern,? said Barclay.
What isn't in doubt is that human impacts on the ocean are hurting dolphins around the world.
?People should recognize that the dolphins need the waters to survive ? that we are visitors to their homes,? said Wells. ?As visitors, we should be good stewards, and respect the needs of these animals as they try to make a living in the aquatic environment.?
Everyday choices can affect the fate of the dolphins. Dolphin experts have some suggestions for how to lead a dolphin-friendly life.
?No matter where you live, reducing pollution can help these animals, as chemicals such as PCBs can be transported by air for thousands of miles before being deposited into the marine environment,? said Wells.

Wells also warned against the illegal but popular practice of feeding wild dolphins . The practice brings dolphins closer to the dangers of being struck by boats or tangled in fishing lines and disrupts the animals' social groups.

?When voting or otherwise participating in the political process, insist on transparent and environmentally responsible decision-making,? said Ragen. ?Inform your political leaders that you support fisheries and other human activities in the marine environment that are seeking to minimize their impacts and promote better ecosystem health, such as reductions or elimination of gillnet fisheries with bycatch problems.?
Ragen noted that reducing consumption in general is good for dolphins and other sea life. A major cause of habitat degradation is the increasing volume of shipping traffic which fills the sea with the thunder of engines and churning water.
?The overall picture for dolphins and other marine and aquatic wildlife is not very promising ? witness the massive over-exploitation of fish stocks, the huge expansion of larger, faster and louder ships, the rush to develop offshore oil and gas, and the apparently intractable problems of climate disruption and ocean acidification,? Ragen said.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Reigniting a debate about the bottom line for President Barack Obama's health care law, a leading conservative economist estimates in a study to be released Tuesday that the overhaul will add at least $340 billion to the deficit, not reduce it.
Charles Blahous, who serves as public trustee overseeing Medicare and Social Security finances, also suggested that federal accounting practices have obscured the true fiscal impact of the legislation, the fate of which is now in the hands of the Supreme Court.
Officially, the health care law is still projected to help reduce government red ink. The Congressional Budget Office, the government's nonpartisan fiscal umpire, said in an estimate last year that repealing the law actually would increase deficits by $210 billion from 2012 to 2021.
The CBO, however, has not updated that projection. If $210 billion sounds like a big cushion, it's not. The government has recently been running annual deficits in the $1 trillion range.
The White house dismissed the study in a statement late Monday. Presidential assistant Jeanne Lambrew called the study "new math (that) fits the old pattern of mischaracterizations" about the health care law.
Blahous, in his 52-page analysis released by George Mason University's Mercatus Center, said, "Taken as a whole, the enactment of the (health care law) has substantially worsened a dire federal fiscal outlook.
"The (law) both increases a federal commitment to health care spending that was already unsustainable under prior law and would exacerbate projected federal deficits relative to prior law," Blahous said.
The law expands health insurance coverage to more than 30 million people now uninsured, paying for it with a mix of Medicare cuts and new taxes and fees.
Blahous cited a number of factors for his conclusion:
? The health care's law deficit cushion has been reduced by more than $80 billion because of the administration's decision not to move forward with a new long-term care insurance program that was part of the legislation. The Community Living Assistance Services and Supports program raised money in the short term, but would have turned into a fiscal drain over the years.

A North Carolina State University researcher has developed a more efficient, less expensive way of cooling electronic devices ? particularly devices that generate a lot of heat, such as lasers and power devices.
The technique uses a "heat spreader" made of a copper-graphene composite, which is attached to the electronic device using an indium-graphene interface film "Both the copper-graphene and indium-graphene have higher thermal conductivity, allowing the device to cool efficiently," says Dr. Jag Kasichainula, an associate professor of materials science and engineering at NC State and author of a paper on the research. Thermal conductivity is the rate at which a material conducts heat.
In fact, Kasichainula found that the copper-graphene film's thermal conductivity allows it to cool approximately 25 percent faster than pure copper, which is what most devices currently use.
Dissipating heat from electronic devices is important, because the devices become unreliable when they become too hot.
The paper also lays out the manufacturing process for creating the copper-graphene composite, using an electrochemical deposition process. "The copper-graphene composite is also low-cost and easy to produce," Kasichainula says. "Copper is expensive, so replacing some of the copper with graphene actually lowers the overall cost."

The Titanic Memorial Cruise, carrying the same number of passengers as the Titanic did, is set to depart from Southampton, where the doomed vessel left on its maiden voyage. The 12-night cruise will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the White Star liner.
As passengers gathered to board, many self-professed "titanoraks" wore period costumes as first-class passengers, crew members, steerage passengers and stewards.
Dressed as an Edwardian gentleman, passenger Graham Free described his excitement.
"I have been a fan of the Titanic since I was nine years old and this cruise is the closest you are going to get to it," said the 37 year old. "The trip has cost a considerable amount, but I wanted to do it."
Fellow cruiser Carmel Bradburn, 55, who lives in Australia, described herself as "fanatical" about the Titanic and struck back at accusations that retracing the doomed voyage is in poor taste.
"I don't think the cruise is morbid. It's like saying Gallipoli is morbid or commemorating the (Crimean) war," she said. "Remembering those who died is not morbid."
With 1,309 passengers aboard, the MS Balmoral will follow the same route as the Titanic. Organizers are trying to recreate the onboard experience ? minus the disaster ? from the food to a live band playing music from that era, in tribute to Titanic's musicians who reportedly played their instruments until the ship sank.
Organizers said people from 28 countries have booked passage, including relatives of some of the more than 1,500 people who died when the Titanic collided with an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912, in international waters in the North Atlantic. Other passengers include relatives of the around 700 survivors, along with authors and historians.

Britain's historic Boat Race was dramatically disrupted Saturday when a wetsuit-clad protester swam across the River Thames, before Cambridge claimed a controversial victory over rivals Oxford.
Trenton Oldfield caused a half-hour hiatus in the race between England's two oldest universities, which is in now its 158th year, in a stunt that will raise security questions ahead of the Olympics and the queen's Diamond Jubilee.
After the race was restarted there was fresh chaos when the two crews clashed and one of Oxford's oars snapped off.
The team's desperate, abortive efforts to recover caused one of their rowers to collapse as they crossed the finish line, although Oxford boat club president Karl Hudspith later said he "is conscious and will hopefully be OK".
Hudspith blamed the protester for Oxford's defeat, saying in a Twitter message: "My team went through seven months of hell, this was the culmination of our careers and you took it from us."
As Oldfield was pulled out of the water by a lifeboat crew, the 35-year-old appeared to have a broad smile on his face. But he was arrested and was later charged with an offence under the Public Order Act, police said.
His protest will raise questions about security ahead of an eventful summer in the British capital.
While rowing events for the 2012 London Olympics starting in July will be held at a closed course in Windsor, west of the city, a flotilla marking the queen's 60 years on the throne is set to proceed down the Thames in June.
British media said Oldfield was an Australian activist who gave warning of his protest in an online statement titled: "Elitism leads to tyranny."
"I am swimming into the boats in the hope I can stop them from completing the race and proposing the return of surprise tactics," he apparently wrote.
The two boats were about eight minutes into the race, with Oxford about a third of a length ahead, when the man wearing a black wetsuit swam in front of the two boats, and was nearly hit by the oars of the Oxford crew.
Spectator Mike Emerson said he saw the man come through the trees on the south bank of the river and get into the water long before the boats came past.
"He started swimming, he knew what he was doing," the 60-year-old from Cambridge told AFP.
"He drifted down the river and then he waited near a pontoon until the boats came, and then he deliberately swam out toward the boats."
Umpire John Garrett halted the race after reserve umpire and former British Olympic rower Matthew Pinsent spotted what he thought was debris in the water, which then turned out to be a swimmer.
"We weren't sure what was going to happen, whether he was going to get out of the way in time and then it was quite clear he was just waiting for the boats to come across him, so I had to stop the race and restart," Garrett said.
The race restarted around half an hour later but seconds after that the crews clashed and one of the Oxford oars snapped off, leaving them trailing far behind by the end of the race.
There was further drama after the finish when Oxford crew member Alex Woods, 27, collapsed in the boat and had to receive medical attention.
Coach Sean Bowden said: "I guess you can only imagine the desperation that Alex must have been in with only six crew-mates left and that's probably how he ended up pushing himself beyond his limits."
The traditional post-race presentation ceremony was abandoned.
"I think it's hard to imagine a Boat Race that contained so much to talk about," Pinsent told the BBC.
Umpire Garrett stood by his decision to award the win to Cambridge, saying the rules stated that crews "have to abide by their accidents".
"In the immediate run-up to the clash I was warning Oxford. Cambridge were in the right position so I was content to let the race continue and the result stand," he said.
The last time the Boat Race was restarted was in 2001 when the crews clashed and one of them lost an oar.
Once just an event for undergraduates at Oxford and Cambridge, the Boat Race has become an increasingly international event, with a succession of top-class rowers from around the world eager to take part.

The user can input a message via the pressure sensitive pads on the glove, which then gets translated into text and transmitted via Bluetooth to a smartphone. That message can be sent as a text message, email, or turned into audio output (eventually). An incoming message will be turned into vibrotactile digital Lorm text after being sent to the glove, again via Bluetooth. It is ?read? to the glove wearer using the vibration motors mounted on the back.
The glove is still a prototype, but already looks very promising in opening up communication to deaf-blind people beyond the limitations of physical interaction. It will also allow access to different types of information due to the translation ability of the glove. So, surfing the web, reading a digital book, or translating audio should be possible in the future, with direct speech input and output being the next stage of development.
